Kuyt sidefooted home at the far post to end a tortuous night for the Reds. Severe Thunderstorm in Omaha June 27th 2008
This is unedited video from a regular point and shoot camera as the storm rolled into west Omaha at about 5:00 PM. The storm was only about 5 minutes, yet sure did a lot of damage throughout the city. There was no reports of a tornado or touchdown of a tornado in Omaha during this storm.In this video you may note that I was basically in the doorway of the Hewlett Packard office at 108th and Farnam drive. From this east side of the building you will notice lots of traffic on I-680 freeway. As the clouds approached from the west, the winds start to pick up. Within 90 seconds the winds picked up such velocity, that it actually knocked one lady to her feet. She retreated back into the building and from that moment, the blankets of torrential rain, mixed with the fast winds racked havoc.You'll note about 1/2 way through the video that no cars on the freeway are no longer visible. You may also see that even the cars 50 feet away in the parking lot at times couldn't be seen.Although we lost electrical power, approximately 1/3 of the city also lost power (approx. 130,000 customers). Some sections of the city will be without power for many days. Tree limbs and entire trees fell throughout the city. Unfortunately, across the state line in Council Bluffs, Iowa 2 young lives were lost when a very large tree fell onto the car they were in.My home is about 20 blocks from the HP office and I did snap a few pictures of damage along my ride home.
