Demo of a final project from the University of Central Florida's CAP 6938: 3D User Interfaces for Games and Virtual Reality, Spring 2008 class.The Boxer Trainer was designed to explore 6 degree of freedom tracking in the context of a video game application. The technology makes use of a Nintendo Wiimote's IR camera that tracks retro-reflective markers on two boxing gloves. Each boxing glove contains a Wiimote. The accelerometer information from each of these Wiimotes is used in conjunction with the IR camera data to determine where a user is punching in 3D space. A Kalman filter was used to fuse the accelerometer and IR data together to reduce jitter and provide for accurate motion tracking. Virtua Fighter is a 1993 fighting game developed for the Sega Model 1 arcade platform by AM2, a development group within Sega, headed by Yu Suzuki.
