M. de Sainte Colombe Tombeau les Regrets "Les Pleurs" In this recording:Jordi Savall, Bass ViolChristophe Coin, Bass Viol Tous Les Matins Du Monde (OST)Recorded in 1991About the score: The score is a transposed version for harpsichord. I found it too tempting not to make the video. So I went for it. I worked with Marc D. (MehdiCaps) on the title slide. Idea and the design of it is his. I only made some slight editing on colors. Thanks a lot, my dear Marc, for your constant help :-*"Sainte-Colombe's music was only rediscovered in 1966, when a manuscript of his 67 Concerts a deux violes esgales was discovered in the library of the famed pianist Alfred Cortot. His music (and a fictionalized account of his relations with his more famous student Marin Marais) was brought to wide attention in Tous les matins du monde, a film that opened the ears of many to the glories of the viola da gamba. Sainte-Colombe's Tombeau les regrets is exemplary for its passionate and lyrical rhetoric. This extended work does not memorialize anyone in particular, but is rather a general meditation on loss. It includes vivid movements depicting the funeral bells (the carillon, or quarrillon), the call of Charon (the boatman of the Styx), the weeping (les pleurs) of those left behind, and finally the joys of the blessed souls in the Elysian Fields." Arlington National Cemetery, resting place for more than 240,000 American military men and women and their dependents, is the most honored burial ground, consecrated by the famous and the everyman, with a history that links George Washington to Robert E. Lee to John F. Kennedy. The most famous burial at Arlington is unknown. The tomb of the Unknown Soldier includes the remains of unidentified soliders from World War I, World War II and the Korean War, and honors those fallen soldiers "known but to God." The precision and poignancy of the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns is one of the most moving spectacles of the capital, and is carried out hourly or, in summer months, on the half hour. The real impact of Arlington is in its serenity. On its 612 acres of rolling hills are interred America's heroes, both famous and unsung, with the rows of headstones seemingly standing at attention, ever ready for duty. And when taking in the view of the city from Arlington House that so inpsired President Kennedy, one understands what they fought for. In honor of Master Gunnery Sergeant Darrell Boatman USMC killed in Iraq and his father, Master Sergeant Roy Boatman, Army Ranger Vietnam Veteran. [ More Detail ]

The Night Before Last This video is about the sense of not belonging foreigners often have from leaving their birth country. Even when they traveled slowly and managed to establish relationships where they live, they always stand out as being different. And when they return to their home country, their new experience has made them different again from the natives. The minute you start living in another country, you will never belong to any place truly again. This can be emotionally draining. The video tries to illustrate this. I'd like you to see it, in reverse order, the start is the end- the start is the total loss of identity, loss of body, just a final mark on the ground, and then you go back in time retracing the last 24hr, the day, staying and the last night before last. The marking with the chalk is to mark where the bones are, it is meant to foresee the death that will come and take account of our physical entities. The "landscape art" with twigs is about leaving a unique mark, after death, something humans have always done, by contrasts with the rest of the animal kingdom. Hell, it's all pretty depressing, but everyone will ask himself or herself all these questions one day or another, well was was my turn. And now I can get on with other things... the next video, I'll try to cheer you up. The same songBy Susheela RamanHow many roads have I wondered?None, and each my ownBehind me the bridges have crumbledNo question of returnAutumn leaves like discarded dreamstrampled underneath a tide of careless feetit's the same song playingeverywhere I goit's like an army marching right through me.Nowhere to go but the horizonwhere, then, will I call my home?Summer spent, in the high grassor just fragments, ransacked memoriesdark river snakes, across this murky hallboatman sings his downstream melodies. How many roads have I wondered?None, and each my ownBehind me the bridges have crumbledwhere, then, will I call my home? The superb video of a sublime song of a great man: NICK CAVE!"Into My Arms" ( "Boatman's Call" album 1997)."Into My Arms"I don't believe in an interventionist GodBut I know, darling, that you doBut if I did I would kneel down and ask HimNot to intervene when it came to youNot to touch a hair on your headTo leave you as you areAnd if He felt He had to direct youThen direct you into my armsInto my arms, O LordInto my arms, O LordInto my arms, O LordInto my armsAnd I don't believe in the existence of angelsBut looking at you I wonder if that's trueBut if I did I would summon them togetherAnd ask them to watch over youTo each burn a candle for youTo make bright and clear your pathAnd to walk, like Christ, in grace and loveAnd guide you into my armsInto my arms, O LordInto my arms, O LordInto my arms, O LordInto my armsAnd I believe in LoveAnd I know that you do tooAnd I believe in some kind of pathThat we can walk down, me and youSo keep your candlew burningAnd make her journey bright and pureThat she will keep returningAlways and evermoreInto my arms, O LordInto my arms, O LordInto my arms, O LordInto my arms [ More Detail ]
