Propaganda? Games? Tyranny? Harmony? What is the right perspective by which to view the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China? And indeed is it moral to watch at all?Howard Phillips cheers on American athletes, yet offers the truth about the most politicized Olympics since the 1936 Hitler Olympics. Both were intended to show a false face to the hosting dictatorships. Everyone knows the horrors of the Nazi regime; but many are too young to remember the horrendous massacre of pro-freedom students by the Chinese military in Tiananmen Square in 1989, and they may look at the Olympic spectacle without knowing the daily horrors of the dictatorship; only knowing what Beijing has spent years creating: a false facade over the largest dictatorship on Earth. Too often our media reports without checking for the truth, or in this case fear if they tell the truth they will lose their access in Beijing. China is offering a "smiley face" painted over a dungeon for Olympic visitors and the media to see. Beyond the freshly painted buildings, the evacuated and demolished slums, the western-designed Olympic buildings, and the smiles of the children and Olympic staff, still remains a country burdened by brutal tyranny.And that tyranny is getting worse, not better as the regime is terrified of any protests or free speech; even protests about the schools and apartments that collapsed in the earthquake are suppressed.China's "one child" policy is enforced by forced abortions and severe punishments. Political and religious prisoners build many of the products you buy--that is slave labor! And some religious and political prisoners are executed for their organs to earn the regime blood money most literally! Horrific! The shiny new buildings and plentiful cars (and smog!) are a fact, but so is the truth that there is NO freedom of speech. NO freedom of religion. NO open elections. One-party rule. NO true labor unions. NO pollution controls-China is the most polluted country on the planet, and is the worst greenhouse gas emitter too. Toxic chemicals long banned in free nations are common, including in food, toys and other products sold to you. Many of your product purchases fund their military--many companies which make the products you buy are owned by the Communist military to build their war machine. China continues their genocidal policies in Tibet, Burma and Darfur in Sudan.That is the perspective to have when viewing the games. Yes, please cheer our athletes! They have trained hard for years to best represent you and me and America. Trafficked Uyghur Children May Not See Home Again http://www.rfa.org/english/news/2005/05/03/uyghur_children/HONG KONG, May 3, 2005—Thousands of children belonging to Muslim families in China's northwest are being cared for each year in a regional rescue center while authorities try to track down their parents, RFA's Uyghur service has learned. The task is difficult, sometimes impossible, because many of the children were trafficked to inland Chinese cities at a very young age and have little memory of the homes they left behind. "We usually take in between 2,000 and 3,000 homeless children every year," an official at the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Orphans and Homeless Children Rescue Center told RFA's Uyghur service. He said many of the homeless children in the center's care had been trafficked by internal traffickers to work in China's booming cities. Children forced to steal. "Most of them were deceived and sold into Chinese cities," the official told RFA. "They were forced to become thieves. Ninety-eight percent of these children are Uyghurs," the official said, referring to the Turkic-speaking Muslim ethnic minority who inhabit the northwestern region of Xinjiang. The Chinese-language Tengritagh Web site recently reported the cases of six homeless children at the rescue center who had been returned to Xinjiang by local police officers in other areas of China. But the children, who included a young girl taken from her parents at age three, were now unable to remember their families or their location, a report carried on the Web site said. Uyghur rights activists say the problem stems from the poverty of the families concerned, but is also part of a wider pattern of discrimination against Uyghurs in China, who are subject to strict religious and political control by Beijing. Gangs promise paying jobs "Chinese human-traffickers come to the Uyghur region from inner China and tell the girls that they will find them paying jobs," Uyghur businesswoman and rights activist Rebiya Kadeer, who was recently released from a Chinese prison, told RFA. "Then they sell these girls by transferring them from owner to owner. The human-trafficking of young Uyghur children is becoming a profession in Xinjiang," Kadeer said. "They are children of poor families. They were deceived and sold by the Chinese and forced to become thieves, heroin sellers and prostitutes," Kadeer said. Street children are evident in large cities across the Asia Pacific region, where they work in occupations that bring them into contact with the public, both the local population and foreign tourists, a 2003 report for the Asian Development Bank found. "The range of work includes begging, collecting rubbish for recycling, scavenging rubbish dumps, shoe-shining, flower or magazine and newspaper sales, prostitution, or the less visible petty theft," said the report, authored by Save the Children social adviser Andrew West. China has major trafficking problem "Some children are trafficked or otherwise coerced into involvement in illegal activities, from bag-snatching and petty theft to drug- or weapons-smuggling. Children may steal food or clothes for themselves," West said. Overseas agencies have identified China as a significant center for human-trafficking, both within its borders and internationally. "The Peoples' Republic of China is a source, transit, and destination country for persons trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and sexual exploitation," the 2004 U.S. State Department report on Trafficking in Persons said. "The domestic trafficking of women and children for marriage and forced labor is a significant problem," it said. Uyghur children face discrimination West's report, entitled At The Margins: Street Children in Asia and the Pacific, singled out Uyghur children as particularly vulnerable because they faced additional forms of discrimination. "Discrimination against various ethnic groups is rife in some countries. Where an ethnic distinction is obvious, then the affected street children face additional problems: for example, the children from Xinjiang in other parts of the People's Republic of China," he wrote. Generally, street children could be beaten by police, shopkeepers, or other adults, and were often subject to harassment by police, including beatings, abuse and other violence, including sexual violation, West's report said. But it also said the Xinjiang rescue center had launched a cross-displinary initiative to solve the problem at source, through education. The center had involved the Justice Bureau, Civil Affairs Bureau, the Women's Federation, and the University and Social Science Academy with the support of Save the Children UK, in providing awareness-raising events in local languages around the region, including television programs and mass meetings, the report said. http://urltea.com/33y5 (Chinese)http://urltea.com/33y6 (English)第一次因为是汉族而汗颜，第一次因为不是党员而庆幸！作者：民大一同学关于最近在藏区发生的一些事情，早就想写点东西了！可是看了很多国内外媒体的报道， 不知道该相信谁了，并 最终失去了自己的判断。文章写到刚开头，可是最终因为感情太复杂而无法继续。今天下午和一个同事又谈到这个问题，最终演变成了激烈的争吵，对方最后用非常 "zhonggong"式的方式拒绝了我继续"大放厥词"，面对不可理喻，我也闭嘴了！但是因为以前接触人群的不同，从来没有想到会有被洗脑到这么严重的人，我才意识到问题不仅仅是这么小！关键是很多汉族和包括一些既得利益藏族人的眼睛里已经没有了西藏的蓝天白云、青山绿水，面对西藏的悠久历史和神秘文化，脑子里光想着怎么将其商业化，他们不知道很多藏族的生产生活和生活方式、宗教民俗、历史文化、价值观念、幸福标准都在逐步的瓦解；他们也不知道很多藏族人的自尊心在流泪；他们更不知道很多藏族人在挣扎......面对西藏的时候，作为一个汉族，有时候我很汗颜，从06年第一次来西藏后，经常会思考这些问题，西藏究竟需要什么，需要怎么样发展，需要谁来发展？我无力反抗什么，也无意去抵制什么，毕竟我们的祖国在慢慢的进步，我们的党在逐渐的走向民主，只是作为一个民族学校毕业且在藏区工作的汉族人，这些问题总是纠缠在我生活工作的每一天里！在文明世界发展到21世纪的时候，在一片地区短时间内发生这些不可想象的事情的时候，在身边很多（汉藏族都有）叫嚣镇压和屠杀的时候，我们是不是该好好反思反思，为什么呢，为什么呢，为什么呢！下面这篇文章摘自校内的一个朋友，作为华夏子孙的一员，无论是什么民族，今天的天之骄子，明天的社会栋梁们，是不是该好好想想呢！放厥词的人们，请向藏族同胞说声对不起我写的东西，没有所谓的分裂主义和破坏民族团结的意图。我爱我的祖国，热爱我的人民，和我所有的同胞们。我只是希望在这个大家庭里，我们能够真正的爱着对方，理解和包容对方。能够真正和谐的生活。我们总是错误的认为，我们做的都是进步的，然而我们却在重复错误。走在拉萨的街头，我心里总会有一种黯然伤神。拉萨，这神圣的地方，可是我却找不到自己的归宿，也迷失了自己的方向。江苏路，北京路，等等这些名字都跃然映现在自己的眼睛里。真正的藏族命名的路却不过几条，这俨然如同回到了内地城市。一路上的小孩乞丐，也纷纷的朝我扑来，我看到了他们祈求的眼神，也看到了得到钱的喜悦，然而，我的心在流泪，语言也显得那么的苍白。时而，有浓妆的小姐们你，向我挥着手，好像要说些什么，可是我却明白他们不是为了和我打招呼。整个圣城之中到处都是援建之物，这不是说不好，藏族人民很感谢兄弟民族给予的帮助和中央的关心，但是那些湖南援建、山东援建这些大字赫然立于房顶，唯恐天下不知，这就显得过于做作了。每个民族都有自己的民族自尊心，想想这是不是也会伤害到藏族的民族自尊心呢？援建的模式，并不按照藏族的文化和意识形态而建，而是想怎么盖就怎么盖，试想 这样的房子藏族人会喜欢吗？而今，拉萨大街小巷的妓女之多，可以说以千上万来计算。曾经有过拉萨的妇女运动，口号是"赶出川妹，还我丈夫。"试想从事这个交易的人该有多少啊！我们不能去责怪藏族，这些都是内地带进去的，而影响程度之深，实难想象。大街小巷，都是那些花枝招展的女人，在那里抛眉弄眼。这不能不说在某种意义上损坏了拉萨的形象。然而，我们却不思悔过，却将圣地作为了放肆和纵欲的处所。有的人放厥，说藏族人黑，说藏族人脏。藏族人是黑，可是却有着一颗鲜红的心，有着纯洁的信仰。看看那些我们自认为白的人吧！脸上涂满了化学药品，还得意洋洋。藏族人不脏，血管里是鲜红的血液，心地是纯洁善良的。我们总是一味的强调汉语的重要。的确汉语很重要，是我国的官方语言。可是，在拉萨和很多藏区，有着一句流行的话："藏语是形式，汉语就是饭碗。"正如我看到的那样，很多藏族学生为了自己的前途奋发地学汉语，最终部分藏人忘却了自己民族的语言。当然这其中的原因很多，比如有的学校没有藏语藏文课程，内地班的藏族学生不允许说藏语等等。语言，是一个民族的根本，在很大程度上是区别一个民族和他民族的标志，没有了语言，也就意味着这个民族文化的消亡。然而，到底有多少汉族人懂得藏语和藏文？这点让人感到深深地自责和歉意。而却有那么多的藏族人熟练的使用和运用汉语。我不知道这是应该高兴还是悲伤，我只是觉得两个民族之间相互了解太少了。汉族人有着自己的节日和习俗，藏族人也有。在拉萨，随着与其他民族的交流，很多藏族人开始过汉族的节日。如：端午节、清明节等。而和藏族人一起过藏族节日 的人却寥寥无几。有的人说，汉族文化是多么的包容阿！是多么的有意义和具有影响力啊！可是，你真正的了解藏族人的节日吗？有的人提起天葬，就觉得残忍、恐怖。可是你想过人死后的尸体，焚烧了也就没有了，土埋了最终也化了土。而天葬却可以利益其他的动物，让他们能够不受饥饿的痛苦，从而保护了其他的小动物。这是多么高尚的葬礼，是多么无私的葬礼，可是却被理解为野蛮、原始、残忍的丧葬仪式。因此，请你在发言的时候看看这方面的资料吧！去了解了解把！很多人总是固执的认为，米饭是最好的主食。当问到藏族人是吃糌粑的时候，脸上的表情是那么的复杂。吃惊、新奇、蔑视、怪异都聚合在那张脸上。太可笑了，太愚蠢了，太无知了，殊不知糌粑是纯正的无污染的天然食品。这些是多么的荒诞，但是却发生在我们的身边。有的人，除了知道西藏有藏族人之外，竟不知其他省区也有藏族人。有的人除了知道西藏有拉萨外，其他地方一概不晓。却依然大放厥词，说三道四。让我们来说说那些援藏的干部们吧！他们真正的是来援藏的吗?他们很多人，屁股还没有坐热，人就已经调回去升官了。有多少人，真正的是来援西藏的？以前听一朋友说他的舅舅，到西藏不到四年，抱走80万回内地。当然这样的故事还有很多，诸如，回去官升两级，回去买别墅等。他们到西藏究竟为藏族人民谋了多少福利？为西藏作了多少贡献？国家每年下拨的钱，最后都到那里去了？我不敢想，越想越害怕。谈谈藏族内地班吧！当然我不知道其他民族内地班的情况，但是对于藏族内地班我还是了解的。所学的知识，全部是汉语写成，学习的历史也是汉族历史。可是藏族的历史呢？作为一个藏族人，不懂自己民族的历史，还是藏族人吗？当然这中间有诸多原因，但是我们是不是也要考虑到民族感，和民族的归属问题。几年下来，很多孩子的汉语进步很大，藏文却是小学水平。谈一下对3.14的看法吧！中国的报道的确很全面，也很详细。但是我有些问题一直萦绕着我。如新闻里，出现了很多"据可靠消息/材料"等等字样，我不知道这些可靠的材料和消息，到底有多可靠？证据到底是什么啊？为什么不告诉我们这些民众呢？网上的3.14录像，很是让人痛心。不管是哪个民族，都是伤心难过。然而，看看评论吧！看看我们的网民把！口口说要杀，要灭，要将藏族人怎样，我们为何如此极端？怎么也这么片面？不是说不要一竿子打死一拨人吗？任何一个民族不是说都是好人。为什么却要放这样的言语呢？是不是也应该反思自己的行为，反思自己的错误呢？全部将藏族人杀绝，是不是有点太不负责了？我们的确是付出了努力，为汉藏文化的团结和共同的发展做出了努力。可是我们却忽略了藏族同胞的感情和信仰。我们付出了，但是还不够真诚，也还不够完善。我们的付出不仅仅是在物质上，而同时还要在精神上。真正的用平等、关爱的态度来付出，而不是只做表面文章。想想中国治理了这么多年的西藏，今天却出现这样的事情，这其中值得我们反思的东西很多，我们不能总是以为自己是对的，是最优秀的。请那些放过厥词的同胞们，请你向善良的藏族同胞们说声对不起吧！只有相互理解和信任，我们的社会才会真正的和谐。。。。。。(声明：此文章在校内网发表时，被删掉三次，故推迟至今日发表，只是表达看法，没有其他想法，希望各位看客给予宽容）----------------Images from Chinese state television about the unrest in Lhasa, Tibet on Friday March 14th 2008. Zenkoji's monks and citizens lighted 177 memorial candles to pray for the souls of the 177 dead. Zenkoji temple had been set for the starting point of the Olympic Torch Relay scheduled on April 26th. On April 18th, Zenkoji temple declined the starting point of the Olympic Torch Relay. The representative of Zenkoji temple's monks talked about the reason for the declination as follows, "Zenkoji is deeply concerned about China genocide against Tibetan people". On April 21st, Zenkoji temple announced to hold the Buddhist memorial service for victims of the uprising in Tibet just before the Olympic Torch Relay.
