Filmed at the Cosplay Masquerade at Sac Anime, the summer gathering of the semiannual anime convention in Sacramento, California, on August 29-31, 2008. The contest took place on Saturday the 30th, and the fashion show was on Sunday the 31st.As you could probably tell, I cosplayed Yuki Nagato, from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. xP And I wrote my own English lyrics to the famed ending theme Hare Hare Yukai to include as many references as humanoidly possible to various excerpts of Yuki's dialogue throughout the show (of which there was a very limited selection, so it made it easy!). Most people probably won't even understand it if they're not, like, the most insanely attentive Haruhiists ever and major Nagato fans to boot, but I put the lyrics in the video via subtitles in case anyone wants to try to understand the jokes. =P (By the way, at the very beginning, that's just my summer reading book The Scarlet Letter done up with a fake book cover of the first volume of the Japanese MoHS manga. xD And in my final pose, that's a mouse... xD;; I didn't have any that looked like hers, but yeah... I'm still searching for a matching one.)Other acts seen here include the Vocaloids (characters from the series of voice synthesizer programs that brought us the likes of Hatsune Miku), some Lucky Star cheerleaders dancing to their OP "Motteke! Sailor Fuku," a Prince of Tennis match, a Vampire Knight skit that got everyone waving their cell phones (and me waving my optical mouse, although you cant see me xD), and a short clip of the best-performance category winners portraying Naruto. So, while the people here were AWESOME, the organization was a little shaky... I'm sure it was nobodys fault in particular, but there were technical difficulties like CRAZY! (As you can see by the cut-off "Konbanwa" as well as the fade edit on my own skit - I had to restart twice! I was so nervous that I totally tuned out everything and didnt hear any applause, and I thought I'd done HORRIBLY. I'm glad I have it on tape to know I didnt do SO awful. xP) But seriously, a lot of people's performances would have probably been a lot smoother and nicer with less nerves due to all the problems. But you know, stuff happens, and it was still a very fun experience. =DOkay, and did you see that Harvest Moon dude!? Ohmigosh! (See - I technically haven't broken the HM theme yet. =P) He had a watering can, a dog, a chicken, and hearts of every color. SO cool! I only wish I had been in my HM: Magical Melody girl outfit for the photo op. I DID wear that outfit, actually, but only on the first day of the con, and he wore his on the second day. ^^; Still, he rocked so much. This video is dedicated to Jenna, a new friend whom I met at SacAnime... at the masquerade... right next to me in the pre-register line AND performance order... planning to dance the Hare Hare Yukai... dressed as another Yuki Nagato. xD We HAD to become friends; that kind of coincidence has fate written all over it. Unfortunately, my mom behind the camera didn't film her skit. Apparently there was a bit of technical difficulty with Cam, too. So sorry! HOWEVER, all of the cosplay skits at the convention are available on a cosplay site called AC Paradise, so check it out if you'd like: YUKI.N #17:http://www.acparadise.com/acp/vid/4310YUKI.N #18:http://www.acparadise.com/acp/vid/4311On YouTube, respectively:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwPfIrReKG8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlrxFdXJiLUVideos belong to American Cosplay Paradise, the WONDERFUL organization that made a complete set of memories possible! And as stated in the video, I claim no rights to any media depicted.P.S.: I'd have to say one of the highlights of this con, although not pictured here, was signing Misa's guest book. xDDD I don't even watch the show but I know what the Death Note means. It was a really cute idea, though, and dang, she got a LOT of people to sign it! Kyon, too. But if all the characters start getting killed off in the upcoming seasons of their anime... I'm gonna be scared. ._.;Hare Hare Yuki Lyrics:No excitement, no emotionYet fans would watch me reading for three whole minutesThe appeal is difficult to convey in wordsOrganic life-contact purposeBOO~N!That is me: I dont need backup to prove my skillsIn five minutes and twenty-eight seconds, I'll warn you all right now:Dont buy soft-serve!I'll integrate all data I findUnless disk errors mess with my mindAs an interfaceDont know how to faceThese new things that I can feelThe magic I wield is stored in my codeIm going right into HOMING MODEThe data I seekIs truly unique:The dreams of one that take on an existence so realPerhaps with permission(Perhaps with permission)I, too, can transitionTo live is not just toObserve. In mid-late July 1993 after Anime Expo #2, Fuji TV in Japan wanted to film a segment on American anime cosplayers for an episode of their show "Naruhodo the World" on Americans interested in things Japanese. Since they were taping various groups in other parts of the country doing other non-anime Japanese stuff as well, they couldn't make it to Anime Expo. So instead Nippas (a company that does work for various studios including Fuji TV) flew myself and a number of other cosplayers back out to LA a few weeks after AX for a special film shoot. The result is this segment which aired in Japan sometime in August 1993.They were especially interested in Dale Engelhardt doing his famous Lupin, but also notable here are Taliesin Jaffe as Inaba the Time Rabbit from Urusei Yatsura, Tavisha Wolfgarth as Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service, Rich Simental as Moose from Ranma 0.5, as well as the Texas and California Dirty Pairs!Of particular historical interest to American otaku is the fact that it was at this event that Tavisha and Rosearik Rikki Simons decided to form Tavicat comics! (Rosearik is perhaps best known as the voice of Gir in Invader ZIM)I went in my Galactic Heroes outfit, but the producers had no idea what it was! I kept saying "Legend of Galactic Heroes" and it's "Ginga Eiyu Densetsu" in Japanese, and they kept saying "Ginga Tetsudon?" and were still confused. Fortunately I brought with me my LoGH background music CD, so after the video shoot at the hotel (where the producers also stayed, by the way) I pulled it out and said "this show!" Whereupon they ooh'ed and aaah'ed and understood. Most amusing was the reaction of the lady who acted as the host of the show — forget the name, Kaori something I think, apparently a Japanese opera singer as well. When she looked at the CD and the song listings on the back, such as "Skies of Love", she noticed the name of the singer and exclaimed "I know her!" I asked her to tell this person I liked her singing very much. This hostess was dressed up as "Oba-Q" from "Obake no Q-Taro", doing a bit of cosplay herself [ More Detail ]
