In 2004, I got myself a pair of hamsters. I promptly named them Ged and Tenar, after the characters from the Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K. Le Guin. A week later, Ged perished from diarrhea, while Tenar had to deal with the house mice. Tenar lived for a year and a half. She never bit me. :DNo pets for years. Until I went and bought a metallic-turquoise Siamese Fighting Fish (betta splendens) the other day. The entire setup only cost me P300, including tank, decors and feeds. Definitely cheaper than the hamster setup (...at Php 700... not to mention the stink!) No need for filters and electric devices. Tropical room temperature, regular cleaning every 4 days and once-a-day pellet feeding is all it takes to keep the fish happy.I named him Allanon, after a character from the first Shannara trilogy by Terry Brooks. In this video, I was giving him a couple of hours for "play time", as suggested by "fish experts". This involved putting a mirror on one side of the tank so the fish can see its reflection and exercise fin flaring and "rival aggression".At first, I thought it was a silly idea. But I documented it, anyway. Using my cheap mp3-player camera, I shot a video of Allanon seeing his reflection for the first time. Near the end of the video, notice how he shows off his fins at his reflection, waving here and there, before making a snobbish turn.Enjoy! :)+++Music: "Good Thing" by James Taylor Quartet [ More Detail ]
