The number "Lullaby Of Broadway" is an immense production number used by Busby Berkeley in the film Gold Diggers of 1935. In the 1980's Broadway revival of the film 42nd Street, this song was incorporated into the play, although it was not in the original 1933 film. The number was sung on Broadway by Jerry Orbach, known to we youngsters only as Lenie Briscoe of "Law &Order. The Broadway play 42nd Street was a rare case of a movie being made into a play, rather than vice versa. Although not as outrageous as the Berkeley number "By A Waterfall" from "Footlight Parade," "Lullaby of Broadway" is outrageous in its own way, especially in the pre WW II era of goose stepping brown shirts, which it resembles. I'm sure the Germans copied Berkeley and not the other way around.Don't fear at the ending because this is a dream sequence where nobody dies. [ More Detail ]
