A mix I made of Kobe Bryant that has 2 tempos. The first part covers his struggles against the Boston Celtics during the 2008 NBA Finals and the second part is a little preview of what will happen the next NBA season. :) Kobe Bean Bryant was born on August 23, 1978. He is an American All-Star shooting guard who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. Bryant is the only son of former Philadelphia 76ers player and former Los Angeles Sparks head coach Joe "Jellybean" Bryant. His parents named him after the famous beef of Kobe, Japan, which they saw on a restaurant menu.Bryant is a shooting guard who is capable of playing the small forward position. He is considered one of the most complete players in NBA history, has been elected to every All-NBA Team since 1999, and has been featured in the last ten NBA All-Star games.He is a prolific scorer, averaging 25.0 points per game for his career, along with 4.6 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals. He is known for his ability to create shots for himself, and is an adept outside shooter, sharing the single-game NBA record for three pointers made with twelve. He has exceptional ballhandling skills and utilizes his speed and athletic ability to elude defenders to finish at the basket. Aside from this, he is also a standout defender, having made the All-Defensive 1st or 2nd Team 8 of the last 9 seasons.Bryant rose to national prominence in 1996 when he became the first guard in league history to be drafted out of high school. Bryant and then-teammate Shaquille O'Neal led the Lakers to three consecutive NBA championships from 2000 to 2002. Since O'Neal's departure following the 2003-04 season, Bryant has become the cornerstone of the Lakers franchise, and was the NBA's leading scorer during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. In 2006, Bryant scored a career high 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, the second highest number of points scored in NBA history. Kobe Bryant vs. Zone Defense
This video details the superior defenses that Bryant and other superstars have to go up against in the modern era of basketball. Unlike he 80's and 90's isolation brand of basketball, Kobe is the most doubled-teamed perimeter player in the history of the NBA. Zone is effective because it plays the percentages. It forces dominant players out of the paint and into lower percentage shots. It also forces great players to distribute the ball to the perimeter - where their role players will become forced into volume three point shooting. Zone is the most effective method of defense and is used around the world at almost every level. Zone is used in college basketball (NCAA) by most teams, and college is considered to be the 'purest' form of basketball. Zone defense is also used by most international teams and it was effective in beating the more athletic USA in the 2006 International Fiba games. If you don't take my word for it, why don't you take Bryant's. Here is an article from 2007 in which Bryant talks about modern zone defenses: "The rules are completely different now,'' said Bryant, comparing his era to Jordan's. "I've always been able to shoot the ball, but the rules have changed since he played in terms of playing a zone defense. You have to be a jump shooter now because there's no way you can get to the basket -- particularly myself because they just stack guys up. I wish we had the rules they had back in the day where you could isolate guys and you could go to the basket anytime.
