From Buckley 1860 played on a Jay Moshella gourd banjo. Most folks are familiar with the fantastic version by the great Clarke Buehling, which is always followed by Briggs' Corn Shuckin'Jig. It is hard not to link these two after hearing them both for so long. [ More Detail ]

This is my new Tackhead banjo that I co-own with my pal Tim Twiss. It's not the smooooth-playin' banjer that my Ashborn copy is...but I love it. It's like a shot of Jack Daniels Green Label- a little rough and harsh but satisfying nonetheless. The Boston Jig comes from Buckley's New Banjo Book, published in 1860. It's a simple little tune, but it speaks volumes to me. It's one of those tunes I find myself playing alot. The Old Virginny Jig is from Phil Rice's Correct Method for Banjo, 1858. It's a tricky little bastard- and the dance that accompanied it was probably a real show-stopper.The Grape Vine Reel is from the playing of Franklin Buchannan Converse, perhaps the greatest of the early banjo players. I first heard this tune played by Clarke Buehling (perhaps the greatest of the modern minstrel-style banjo players.)Okay, I'll shut up. Enjoy the music. [ More Detail ]
