Duke Nukem 3D's Hollywood Holocaust......revisited.
EDIT, PLEASE READ!!!!:youtube is being uber-retarded and usually not letting me post...so here's a link to the audio file you guys requested: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=27AT0SPSit's a rar file and includes 3 extra variations of the melody in addition to the one that some of you asked for.enjoy!Here's a quick little vid that I whipped together showing some of the progress I have made on my UT3 map, heavily based on e1l1 of Duke Nukem 3D.The final product will look *much* better; by exactly how much I'm not quite sure, but the whole project is still in it's very early stages of development. The entire level is pretty much complete BSP-wise; but most of the interior areas(movie theatre, restroom, lobby, etc.) are not textured or lit yet. So what you're seeing is pretty much all that is in a presentable(if you can call it that) state. But most of it will be drastically different in appearance by the time I am done.....a lot of what you see are merely placeholders for the final art assets. The only thing that will remain is the raw geometry(bsp shell) and even that may undergo some further altercations. :-)So yeah, I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I'm up to the task.*Insert joke about it being done before Duke Nukem Forever here*Oh, and please keep in mind that this video was created for a friend of mine who knows literally nothing about PC gaming...I just thought I'd show her what I do in my spare time.I sorta liked the way it turned out so what the hell, I'm upload it to the 'tube. If anything it'll be something to look back at to see how far the level has come once it reaches the higher quality look/feel that I'm striving for.So enjoy, and there will be plenty more(and better) videos as I get closer to finishing it (Which will be "when it's done", it had to be said; lol).And if I have the time/patience, I may even consider modeling all of the original enemies, guns and characters, making a single player experience in addition to my original intentions of building a Deathmatch arena.A few extra notes: The fire effect shown here is probably my most prided element of the level so far. You may think it's possible to simple click a button and select "add fire" or something like that...well, you couldn't be more wrong. I spent about 2 hours creating the fire from scratch. I had to tweak every aspect imaginable and then some- the color, movement on all 3 axises(x, y, z) the frequency of animation looping(to give it a realistic, erratic appearance), and much, much more. And I manually built the smoke and spark effects as well, which were just as complex. All of these elements are created using another editor with in Unreal Editor, which lets you design level properties known as "emitters". Emitters can include pretty much anything that spews out, such as water, fire, sparks, or any solid object you might want to flow in a stream(i.e. a shower of boulders, using static meshes).And yes, I am aware of the fire light dumpster shadow error. I tweaked every single property of the moving light, dumpster and even surrounding textures I could think of....no success. I love the way it looks, if only it stayed that way if you were to move more than 20 ft. away from it. Arrgh.In case you missed it check out 2:03- 2:06 to see what I'm talking about. And yes, I also created the moving shadow and light as well, using a key frame system(which I looped, of course) in yet another sub-editor.Okay, looks like I'm getting a bit carried away; I could easily write a good 30 pages on what I know about UnrealEd, I just felt like giving a brief lesson on what I had to go through to bring you this. It might help you n00bs appreciate it a tad more, hehe. I did work pretty freakin' hard on it, seriously. lolYou also could say that the tech-oriented explanations I just gave were sort of like a small window into one of my worlds, if you will.Important disclaimer: This level will never actually be released to the Internet due to copyright issues regarding level design by 3D Realms(the game's original creators). This is simply an endeavor of mine which I indulge myself in for my own personal enjoyment(and to pick up skills to become a better level designer).I will release media(in the form of screenshots and videos) but it will be simply fan-art---NOTHING more.
