Here is Chopin's famous "Aeolian Harp" Étude in a half-decent run, I guess. It once more was for my rush to apply to music schools, so I had not gone over it with my teacher in months.Self-criticism for other pianists:- note harsh at top of a R.H. melody+ good climax- missed a note after climax- L.H. overpowers during second var. on tema+ good rubato- missed note in R.H.- not enough contrast between the central repeated melodies- note in L.H. overpowered R.H. during return to tema- ending sucksI apologize for the tilted camera. I did not bother to preview it before recording, I am far too busy to rerecord it just for the sake of YouTube, and I know of no video-editing software that can rotate the picture in movies. So there. Nyah-nyah. [ More Detail ]
Chopin Etude Opus 10 No.4, in C Sharp MinorPiano: Maurizio PolliniRecorded in 1972This solo piano work was composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1830. This study is written with a very quick tempo, continual sixteenth notes, and rapid voice fluctuations. Although the étude is technically more difficult to execute than most of the other Chopin études, the focus is on developing the ability to distinguish between the melody, which is constantly passed from hand to hand. This time a jazz improvisation etude based on Miles Davis' "All Blues".I'm happy to report I finally understand what modal means. (The best explanation I found what in "Metaphors for the musician". Get that book (Sher Music)This particular piece was a lot quicker for me to learn than the last. It's a good introduction to 4th voicings, and some cluster voicings. 6 days, somewhere under 15 hours. Very satisfying. The next piece should take a while. It's a slow blues in Bb, with tons of block chords "a la Red Garland". I love the sound of it, but it's gonna be a challenge. We'll see. Subscribe so you don't miss it.-- Keep playing. [ More Detail ]
Andre Watts from a Mr. Rogers episode in the 1980s playing Chopin's "Revolutionary" Etude, Op.10#12. This is one of the best performances of this etude I've heard, and to see the fluidity of Watts' left hand leaves me speechless. [ More Detail ]
