I first heard this version of Thelonious Monk's "Blue Monk" on the groundbreaking "Folk Roots, New Routes" album by Davy Graham and Shirley Collins in 1964. I've been playing it on and off, with different variations, ever since.Simple tab for this is available at my website:http://www.mjra.net/WillFly/tabs.shtml [ More Detail ]
I first heard Horace Silver's "Buffalo" played by Davy Graham on his 1961 album "The Guitar Player" - which I bought on vinyl and still have. It's nearly a 12-bar blues but with some passing bass notes in the final bars. I've translated those bass notes into more forward chords.http://www.mjra.net/WillFly/If you like DIY music and good companionship, why not take a look at the "Front Porch" discussion board. The correct title for this is "Cocaine" - but I didn't want to confuse it with the better-known classic by JJ Cale. It goes back to the Reverend Gary Davis, but I'm playing around with the Davy Graham version from the "Folk, Blues and Beyond" album. It's basically a simple 8-bar blues with a 4-bar middle theme, but Davy's chords - particularly those running from F, Fdim, C, Am, D9 and G7 - give the impression of a separate bass voice.I've posted free, simple tab for this on my website at:http://www.mjra.net/WillFly/tabs.shtmlIf you like DIY music and good companionship, why not take a look at the "Front Porch" discussion board. I was hooked on Davy Graham's version of "Moanin'" from the "Folk, Blues &Beyond" album from when it first came out over 40 years ago. This is not a copy of his version but certainly nods to it! It's a Bobby Timmons composition, by the way.http://www.mjra.net/WillFly/If you like DIY music and good companionship, why not take a look at the "Front Porch" discussion board.
