The first attempt at explaining the origins of the Albanians and the Albanian language was made by the Swedish historian Hans Erich Thunmann in his work "Undersuchunger liber di Geschichte der Östlichen europäischen Völker" Leipzig, 1774. Thunman which based hes work on Latin and Byzantine historical sources and on linguistic, onomatopoeic documents came to the conclusion that the Albanians are autochthonous descendants of the ancient Illyrian population who were not romanised as was the case with the Thraco-Dacian population the predecessors of the Romanians.The theses of Illyrian origin theory of the Albanian people was defended by well known Austrian albanologue Johannas Georges von Hahn in his work Albanesische Studien, published on 1854. It contains extracts translated from the Gospel according to St. Matthew, etc., and is written in the dialect of the South, in the Greek alphabet.This text written in Albanian is known in the Albanian literature by the name "The Easter Testament". New York 1996) p.43 "Albanians descend from ancient Illyrian tribes that by some accounts came to the Balkan Peninsula even before the Greeks did, and more than a thousand years before the Slavs. The Albanian language, Shqip, also derives from that of the Illyrian tribes and bears no similarity to any other known tongue" According to Noel Malcolm "Kosovo: A Short History" (London: Macmillan, 1998 )p.31: It is clear that Albanian is indeed the only surviving representative of an ancient Balkan language: it belongs to the Indo-European family of languages, but exists in a sub-section of its own, with no immediate relatives. If either Illyrian or Thracian could be identified as its parent this would at least set some fairly clear geographical limits to the early home of the Albanians"! Albanians are currently living in some of the territories, which were inhabited by Illyrians in ancient times; on the other hand, historical sources do not speak of any Albanian migration from other territories to the present ones! A number of linguistic elements such as names of things, tribes, people, etc, of Illyrian origin, are explained in the Albanian language.The ancient toponymic forms of the Illyrian Albanian territories, as compared to the corresponding present-day forms, prove that they have evolved in conformity with the rules of the historical phonetics of the Albanian language. Die Nato bemüht sich stärker um eine politische Lösung des Konflikts.Ralf BesteBONN, 12. April. Etwas überrascht war der Staatssekretär schon, als er vorigen Donnerstag im Arbeitskreis IV der Grünen-Bundestagsfraktion so viele Fragen zu einem einzigen Thema beantworten mußte. Diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger geriet ins Schwimmen, denn die Fragen der Grünen-Außenpolitiker gingen ins Detail. Welche Rolle spielte der Appendix B des Rambouillet-Vertrages? Warum wurden darin den Serben Auflagen über die Stationierung von Nato-Truppen diktiert? Ischinger hatte mit Serben und Albanern viel Zeit in dem französischen Schloß verbracht, doch diese Debatte war ihm neu.Seit diesem Montag weiß Ischinger, daß der Appendix B nicht einfach ein Anhang zu einem Vertrag ist, der wohl niemals gültig wird. "Die Rambouillet-Lüge: Was wußte Joschka Fischer?" lautete die Schlagzeile der alternativen Tageszeitung "die taz". Das Blatt stellt den Außenminister vor die Wahl, er sei entweder selbst schlecht informiert gewesen oder habe das Parlament irregeführt. Gleichzeitig überschrieb die "Süddeutsche Zeitung" ihren Bericht über einen Brief der grünen Verteidigungspolitikerin Angelika Beer mit den Worten: "Kosovo-Einsatz spaltet die Grünen". Wenn sie von diesem "aus Sicht Belgrads inakzeptablen" Appendix B gewußt hätte, schrieb Beer an ihre Fraktion, hätte sie dem Luftangriff nicht zugestimmt.Erst jetzt begann das Auswärtige Amt, das die taz-Berichte seit einer Woche ignorierte, zu reagieren. Das Statut über die Rechte der in Jugoslawien stationierten Truppen sei verhandelbar gewesen, hieß es. Zudem hätte eine Kfor-Truppe für Kosovo in Jugoslawien damit nur die gleichen Rechte wie die bosnischen Sfor-Truppen. Geheimgehalten worden sei der Vertrag auch nicht. Minister Fischer habe am 24. Februar um 7.30 Uhr in der Sitzung des Auswärtigen Ausschusses zwei Exemplare an den Vorsitzenden Hans-Ulrich Klose (SPD) übergeben. "Es ist nicht meine Aufgabe, jeden Tag im Sekretariat anzurufen, ob es da einen Vertrag gibt", beharrt die Abgeordnete Angelika Beer.Die Friedenspolitikerin Beer gilt als Garantin dafür, daß die Grünen, wenn auch zähneknirschend, die Nato-Intervention auf dem Balkan tragen.
