His first steady gigs of note were with Shirley Horn and Buck Hill. In the 1960's he toured with Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery, Eddie Harris, and Pharoah Sanders. In 1970 he joined Herbie Hancock's Sextet, and after that band broke up in 1973 he joined first McCoy Tyner (two years) and then Stan Getz (four). In the 1980's Hart was a regular with many bands and leaders: Gerry Mulligan, Billy Harper, Clark Terry, The New York Jazz Quartet, the Jazztet, Mingus Dynasty and most extensively with Quest (with David Liebman, Ritchie Beirach, and Ron McClure). In the 1990's Hart was a member of the Charles Lloyd, Joe Lovano, and Tom Harrell groups, and in 1999 he began performing with the Three Tenors (Liebman, Lovano, and Michael Brecker). Details about Corey Hart:- Born in Montreal, Québec on May 31st, 1962 and is the youngest of five siblings. - Lived in Spain, Mexico and the U.S. as a young boy. - Parents divorced at age 11 and Corey moved back to Montreal with his Mom and older brother. - Fluent in English, French and Spanish - First record bought was Maggie Mae by Rod Stewart. - At 13, Corey sang for Tom Jones and recorded with Paul Anka in Las Vegas. - At 14, Corey started to write his own music/lyrics and dreamed of becoming a singer/songwriter and recording artist. - At 18, Corey competed at the "World Popular Song Festival Budokan" in Tokyo. - At 19, Corey met Billy Joel and worked in Long Island, New York with his band to complete a demo of his first songs. - Early musical influences include The Police and Billy Joel. - At 20, Corey signed his first recording contract with Aquarius/Capitol records. - Recorded first album in Manchester England in the spring of 1982 with producers Jon Astley and Phil Chapman. -Eric Clapton lent his guitar stylings to the album.- Corey wrote and recorded "Sunglasses at Night" in the summer of 1983 when he just turned 21. - In November 1983, the album First Offense is released -- which led with the hit single "Sunglasses at Night". - In 1984, Corey signed to EMI America and went on to record five albums with them, which attained nine U.S. Billboard Top 40 hits from 1984-1990. The releases sold over ten million albums worldwide. - Grammy, Juno, ADISQ and ASCAP nominations and awards followed. He was nominated for a Top New Artist Grammy for the album, but lost to Cyndi Lauper.- In 1985, Corey was offered the lead role in the blockbuster hit Back To The Future but declined. Also turned down the offer to perform the hit song "Danger Zone" for the film Top Gun. - In 1986, Corey achieved Diamond award (one million plus) certification in Canada for his album "Boy in the Box". - In 1986, Corey is recognized as the most popular male artist by a National Canadian survey conducted by Pepsi. - In 1986, Corey won the "single of the year" Juno award for anthem hit "Never Surrender," while he headlined in sold out tours across Canada, the U.S and Japan. - In 1992, Corey signed with Sire/Warner Bros in the U.S and released the commercial disappointment "Attitude and Virtue," which featured the song "Love and Money" with Terence Trent D'arby. - In 1994, Corey produced and wrote several songs for French Canadian singer Julie Masse on her first English album, "Circle of One." Corey and Julie fell in love and the couple went on to have three beautiful daughters together: India (age 7), Dante (age 4), and River (age 2). The hit single, "Sunglasses at Night" (reached number 7 in 1984 on US charts, moreover, his biggest success even) propelled Canadian pop star Corey Hart to the top of the charts and helped his debut album, 1983's "First Offense", become a major hit in the United States and Canada. Born in Montreal on May 31, 1962, he traveled frequently as a child, living in the Bahamas with his father, but primarily following his mother through Mexico, Spain, and Florida, among other places. His early efforts to sign with Canadian record companies were fruitless; he then went to New York, worked for a while, and returned to Canada, eventually signing a contract with Aquarius Records. Hart was attractive, brooding, and smart, the kind of young man a lot of women wanted, making him a sex symbol of the '80s. He was asked to record "The Heat is On" for the movie Beverly Hills Cop and "Danger Zone" from Top Gun, but refused, insisting he would only record his own music. Hart's appeal was so great he was even approached about being in movies, and he reportedly turned down the Michael J. Fox role in Back to the Future.His cool, athletic good looks made it easy to promote him as a post-teen sex symbol, but while his songwriting never managed to get very deep, he sang with a passion that made his songs appealing. "Boy in the Box", the 1985 follow-up to his debut, produced a hit single with "Never Surrender," which would remain his highest-charting song (reached number 3 in August,1985). His next album, "Fields of Fire", met with some commercial success, but after that, his fortunes began to wane in the United States. His next two albums garnered little attention and 1990's "Bang" was his last with Aquarius. 1992's "Attitude and Virtue" was his first album with Sire/Warner, before he joined Columbia and released a self-titled album in 1996 and 1998's Jade, which Hart describes as his best-sung album to date.
