Remembering her "silent" glory years with Harold Lloyd: 1923-1927.Sustaining a Southern belle in the spotlight. All film clips featured in this one-shot video can now be enjoyed on DVD—complete, restored, and in the full contexts of the original silent movies in which they appeared—by referring to the HAROLD LLOYD COMEDY COLLECTION DVDs distributed by New Line Cinema. Please do not hesitate to go directly to the source http://shop.newline.com/ for your copies or more information! This YouTube video aspires to be no more (and no less) than an earnest tribute to and review of a special silent-screen actress's work. If a New Line rep, after viewing this video and reading this text, has any legitimate professional concerns about this upload, please send me a detailed private message and I shall respond promptly. Thank you. And I mean it.All film clips featured in this one-shot video are scored to various pieces of music selected by me. (Please contact me for credits.) "Scoring" for silents demands uniquely sympathetic musical treatment of film material, as thematically eloquent, emotionally resonant, and inventive as possible. I think I have succeeded in matching moods here, both cinematic and melodic. The six restored Harold Lloyd films in this video enjoy, on DVD, complete and original scores by Robert Israel (for five films) and Carl Davis (for "The Kid Brother"). To these gentlemen—and especially Mr. Israel—I say: such is my respect for your genius—your scores delight, move, and awe me—that I refused to either break up or into the flow of your magnificent musical narratives when I edited the film clips themselves—and, by the way, how to condense so much Harold-Lloyd-film brilliance into a ten-minute time frame was no mean challenge. First-time viewers of the Harold Lloyd DVDs are in for one hell of a treat when they hear the musical magic only YOU could create, good sirs.A special hello and salute to Suzanne Lloyd of The Harold Lloyd Trust; Jeffrey Vance, film archivist and co-author—with Suzanne—of a book of riches entitled HAROLD LLOYD: MASTER COMEDIAN (2002/Harry N. Abrams); Leonard Maltin, Richard Schickel, Kevin Brownlow, and Annette D'Agostino Lloyd, film critics and historians...each of whom has shared his/her love of, knowledge about, and unique perspective on Harold Lloyd's work with the world—"in my own little corner," I was listening. I hope and trust they and all admirers of Harold will consider this YouTube video a worthy tribute to Miss Jobyna Ralston.Questions or comments are sincerely welcome. Lewd, derogatory, or irrational comments will be silenced forever. (Natch!) Thanks a mil for viewing, folks.Dedicated to the memories of Jobyna Ralston-Arlen and a true master of his craft, Harold Lloyd. [ More Detail ]

Harold Lloyd was undoubtedly one of the best film entertainers of the twentieth century; but, he has also been too long forgotten/ignored in favor of Chaplin and Keaton, even though he was more popular and made more money than both during his heyday. Also, Lloyd was a HUGE influence on Jackie Chan. Not only do many of Chan's stunts obviously pay homage to Lloyd, but his good-guy character (both on &off-screen) links to Lloyd's. Anyway, here is a "tribute" to him with clip from some of his movies--the song is "Act Naturally" by the Beatles. Some other users have his movies uploaded on youtube, so you can fully enjoy his masterful works. Also, his autobio "An American Comedy" is a great read. [ More Detail ]
